How James Milner annoyed Craig Bellamy at Newcastle United - but Alan Shearer benefited

Craig Bellamy was not happy with James Milner's crossing at Newcastle United because he wanted the ball to feet - but the midfielder intended to make the most of Alan Shearer's presence with his deliveries into the box.

Following Leeds' relegation in 2004, Milner completed a £5m move to St James' Park and quickly struck up a bond with Shearer, who was one of his childhood heroes.

Milner was struck by Shearer's professionalism and how he dealt with being mobbed on the club's pre-season tour of the Far East for example.

Shearer, in turn, admired Milner's attitude during their time together on Tyneside and how his team-mate was able to pick him out with his crosses - even when the diminutive Bellamy complained.

"Growing up, watching how many goals he scored and how good he was and then seeing him in training, being able to put crosses in for him...Bellers used to not be too happy with me when I used to put crosses in because he wanted it to feet and it's like, 'We've got Alan Shearer in the middle!'" Milner laughed in conversation with BT Sport's What I Wore.

Milner, who was loaned to Aston Villa for a season during his time at the club, went on to make 136 appearances for Newcastle before completing a permanent move to Villa Park in 2008.

The versatile Yorkshireman has since won seven trophies, including two Premier League titles with Man City and the Champions League with Liverpool.
