This is how the new hospitality zone in the centre of Cardiff will look

This is how the new hospitality vehicle free hub in the centre of Cardiff will look.

The outdoor and covered eating area, running along Castle Street, is part of a wider range of measures from Cardiff Council to support the hospitality sector, such as cafes and restaurants, recover from the economic fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Visitors to the hub will be able to order food and drinks for delivery from a selection of restaurants and cafes in the city centre via an app.

Work on asphalting the main road through the centre of the city has been completed, with part of the highway also providing new cycle lanes.

The council said the new outdoor area could be ready for use by the end the month.

Bars, restaurants and cafes have been able to reopen today in Wales for outdoor service.

If cases of coronavirus continue to fall, the Welsh Government will allow them to open indoors from August 3.

Cardiff Council has a strategy to reduce car usage in the city centre and over the longer-term see a huge investment in public transport,  both bus, rail cycling and walking, across the capital and linking to other locations in the wider Cardiff Capital Region too such as Llantrisant.
