How is Christian Eriksen now? Denmark star latest after invitation to Euro 2020 after cardiac arrest

Christian Eriksen's collapse on the second day of Euro 2020 shocked the world but he is now on the road to recovery.

The Denmark playmaker suffered a cardiac arrest in the first half of their opening game against Finland and was resuscitated on the pitch as his team-mates formed a protective shield around him.

Eriksen was taken to hospital and posted a picture a few days later giving the thumbs up, saying: "I'm fine - under the circumstances."

The former Tottenham star was released on June 18 after an operation that saw him fitted with a cardioverter defibrillator and has since been recovering from his home in the Danish city of Odense.

Earlier this week a picture emerged of Eriksen with young fan Bjorn Bindzus at Tidvilde Strand beach, around 60km from Denmark.

The 29-year-old could make an appearance at Sunday's Euro 2020 final at Wembley having been invited by UEFA, along with the six paramedics who saved his life, but that is yet to be confirmed.

Eriksen vowed to "cheer on the boys" after his Instagram post from hospital and is likely to be watching tonight's semi-final between Denmark and England at Wembley from home, while he has been staying in contact with his team-mates during the tournament.

Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand said: "There's communication between the players and Christian and I have talked with him and I've told him so many times that I think about him.

“So he's with us and we still play for and with him. There's no doubt about that.

"I hope that if he comes to the final, that we're going to be playing it. It would be amazing."

It has been reported by MailOnline that England captain Harry Kane, who played with Eriksen at Spurs, will also present Denmark captain Simon Kjaer with an England shirt with Eriksen's name on it before kick-off at Wembley, just as Gareth Bale did when Wales met them in the round of 16.
