How India's Rs 52,000 crore defence proposals will strengthen security across land, sea and air

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on July 3, 2026, granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) worth about Rs 52,000 crore for several procurement proposals for the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. The approvals cover a range of air defence, anti-tank, electronic warfare, surveillance and naval systems.

Here is what each approved system is designed to do:

AKASH TARANG

The Anti-Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) Electronic Warfare System, AKASH TARANG, is intended to provide effective protection against hostile drones for Indian Army formations.

Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM)

The MPATGM system is designed to strengthen the Indian Army's ability to counter mechanised threats, including enemy armoured vehicles and tanks.

Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM)

The MRSAM Weapon System provides medium-range air defence against a variety of stand-off aerial threats.

Very Short Range Air Defence System (V-SHORADS)

The V-SHORADS, equipped with multi-spectral sensing, is intended to improve resilience against countermeasures while enhancing the Army's short-range air defence capability.

Active Protection System for Tanks

The Active Protection System is designed to improve the defensive capability of tanks and enhance their survivability during combat.

Jet-Based Kamikaze Drone System

The Jet-Based Kamikaze Drone System is intended to deliver improved electronic warfare capability with greater lethality and survivability while remaining cost effective.

Multi Influence Ground Mine (MIGM)

For the Indian Navy, the Multi Influence Ground Mine is designed to deny an adversary the freedom to manoeuvre in the maritime domain.

Naval Shipborne Unmanned Aerial System (NSUAS)

The NSUAS is equipped with advanced sensors to enhance the Indian Navy's situational awareness during maritime operations.

Land Based Testing Facility (LBTF)

The proposed Land Based Testing Facility will support the testing of motors and associated electric propulsion systems for Indian Naval assets.

Fixed-Wing Based High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (FW-HAPS)

The FW-HAPS is designed to provide persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, along with telecommunication and remote sensing support for the Indian Air Force.
