How iconic paintings would look with a 21st century glow up

The iconic paintings you know and love have been given a 21st century glow up to show how the models would look if they’d been painted now.

When you think of the most famous depictions of women, throughout history, the Mona Lisa, Girl with the Pearl Earring, and The Birth of Venus might come to mind.

But what would they look like if the most popular trends of the last thirty years were included?

What if those paintings had a smoky eye makeup look? Beachy waves? Or the recently re-popularized skinny brows?

This is the work of Vitabiotics Perfectil, which researched the top trends of the last thirty years to see how they might look on some of art history’s most famous faces - the same number of decades that the company has been selling supplements.

The Mona Lisa

The world’s most famous painting, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, had a 00’s makeover a la Christina Aguilera, replete with thin brows, chunky highlights, and frosted eyeshadow.

Girl With A Pearl Earring

Girl With A Pearl Earring, the work of Johannes Vermeer, looks like she’d fit right into 2025 beauty standards, with strong brows, glowy skin, and a tasteful nude lip.

The Birth of Venus

The Birth of Venus, painted in 1480 by Sandro Botticelli, was given a classic 1990s makeover, with cute butterfly clips, nail art, and body glitter.

When researching the top beauty trends of the last 30 years, the beauty supplement brand found that the top beauty icons since the 90s included Jennifer Aniston, Kate Middleton, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Kate Moss and Jennifer Lopez.

The top beauty trends in those 30 years were smoky eye make-up, the ‘Rachel’ haircut and kohl (pencil) eyeliner.

Explaining the research, a spokesperson from Vitabiotics Perfectil, said: “Some of the trends of the last few decades have been iconic, so we wanted to give some iconic paintings a truly iconic look.

“Had Vermeer, Leonardo Da Vinci or any of these old masters been around today, these give some indication how their paintings may have looked differently.”

They added: “But we all know a lot of these trends are fleeting and many are no longer at the forefront of beauty – although they may well come back again in 30 years’ time.

“While these trends come and go, one thing which truly has stood the test of time is the strong link between beauty and wellness from within to ensure a healthy lifestyle and a diet rich in key nutrients.
