How I get ready: Phil Spencer

I usually start with a run. I like getting hot and sweaty and getting the endorphins going – that way, I get myself into a positive frame of mind. After that I don’t spend much time on it.

I do think about what I wear, though. Working in television, it is only right I give it some thought, although it is much easier for me than it is for Kirstie [Allsopp, his co-presenter]. Female fashions change so much more quickly.

I get all my suits from Richard James, in Savile Row. I like how he blends classic tailoring with contemporary twists. Plus, his suits fit me off the peg, so that helps.

As I’ve got older, I’ve become much more aware of things that fit well – and things that don’t, particularly on television. You can have a gorgeous jacket, but if it doesn’t fit it won’t suit you; I have spent more money over the past few years buying something I like and then getting it fitted. I’ve got skinny legs and a tummy that is bigger than it should be, but I’m not too bothered about it. I exercise a lot, but I also like to eat and drink a lot, too.

When it comes to grooming, I have a daytime aftershave and a night-time aftershave, and I use an ESPA moisturiser, which has been my go-to for the past 25 years. I spend a lot of time out in the fresh air and sun, whether exercising or filming, so a bit of moisturiser is probably only fair for my poor head.
