How Hurricane Lorenzo will affect Wales on Friday

Wales is bracing itself for another spell of stormy weather as Hurricane Lorenzo crosses the Atlantic and heads towards the UK.

The Met Ofice has issued a 12-hour weather warning for wind across western parts of the country on Friday, October 4.

People are being warned to expect delays on road, rail, air and ferry transportation within the warning area.

There could also be some short term loss of power and coastal regions may be affected by spray and large waves.

According to Met Office forecasters, the south and southwest of Wales will experience very windy conditions on Friday morning.

Severe gales will then continue into the afternoon, particularly in Pembrokeshire and along the south coast, and it will stay wet and windy elsewhere.

Skies will begin to brighten up in the afternoon with maximum temperatures of 17°C.

Saturday will begin dry but rain is expected to arrive during the day, becoming heavy overnight.

Cardiff

It will be a wet and blustery start to Friday for Cardiff, with westerly winds of 14mph picking up through the morning.

Stormy conditions will ease into the afternoon though, with a cloudy but settled Friday evening.

Swansea

Swansea is within the weather warning area.

Although rain will start light in the morning, it will turn heavier early in the afternoon.

Gusts of wind are expected to come in at about 30 to 36mph, gradually calming through until the evening.

Tenby

Further west, Tenby is expected to miss the worst of the rain on Friday.

However, the area will bear the brunt of the strong winds. It will turn much brighter and drier on Saturday.

Aberporth

Light showers will begin to arrive at Aberporth on Friday morning, turning heavier throughout the day.

By 5pm, the worst of the stormy weather will subside for a more settled evening.

Porthmadog

Further north in Gwynedd there will be heavy rain to start, gradually easing towards the middle of the day.

Turning much brighter in the afternoon and evening, but remaining windy.

Rhyl

(Met Office)

Friday will start with some light rain in Rhyl, but a lot more settled than other parts of the country.

It will remain dry throughout most of the day but will stay overcast.

Builth Wells

Light rain will get heavier through the day in Builth Wells.

Showers will remain for most of the day turning drier but still cloudy into the evening.

Aberystwyth

Heavy rain will be consistent in Aberystwyth through most of the morning and afternoon.

Turning lighter later on, with winds also settling through to the evening.
