How Hearts can win the Championship title this weekend if results go their way

Better recent results would have seen it done and dusted already, but there is a permutation of results that can see Hearts win the league title this weekend.

Dundee’s comfortable 3-0 win over Ayr United moved them level on points and games with second placed with Raith Rovers, both having accumulated 36 from their 22 matches.

Hearts have played a game more and sit on 47 points.

First and foremost, they have to beat Alloa at Tynecastle on Friday night. If they don’t, the Championship can't be mathematically won this weekend.

If Robbie Neilson ’s team do manage a first win in five, then it's all eyes on Stark’s and Dens the following day.

That would move the Jambos on to 50 points, 14 points clear with Raith and Dundee having 15 left to play for.

James McPake’s side host Greenock Morton, who were heavily beaten 4-1 at home by Inverness CT on Tuesday night.

Raith take on part-time Arbroath, who are themselves in a battle with Morton to try and avoid the dreaded relegation play-off spot.

Both are seven points clear of Alloa and should have done enough already to avoid finishing bottom, especially if the league leaders do take care of the bottom side on Friday evening.

A win for either Dundee or Raith will mean Hearts have to wait, but if both fail to win, then promotion to the Premiership is confirmed.

If one of the two do take all three points, then hearts could win it before their next game a week on Tuesday.

They’d be 11 points clear with Dundee and/or Raith having 12 left to play for.

Both are in action this Tuesday, with Dundee at Dunfermline and Raith travelling to Queen of the South.

Defeats for both means it over, although a point for one keeps things going a little bit longer. Two wins on the 13th would leave a gap of nine points with three games left for the chasing two.

In that case, Hearts would need just a point away at Morton on Tuesday 20 April to get over the line.
