How Harry Maguire talks with Manchester United coaches inspired win vs Chelsea

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Manchester United coaches spoke specifically with new signing Harry Maguire to prepare him for their new style of play.

United dismantled Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford in their Premier League opener and new £80million signing Maguire was named the official man of the match as Solskjaer presided over a first clean sheet since February 24.

Maguire, coveted by former United manager Jose Mourinho last year, cleared the ball more times than any other player, completed the most interceptions and clocked up an 86 per cent passing accuracy on his debut.

The England international was flanked by fellow debutant Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who flourished at right-back in United's new-look defence.

"They slotted in really well," Solskjaer said of Maguire and Wan-Bissaka. "Harry's had three or four sessions with the team but he's such an experienced pro that wants to learn.

"We've had a couple of talks with him about how we want to play, how he normally defends, how he normally plays, so that'll only improve.

"And Aaron is so aggressive, doesn't wanna get beat by tackles, so he's a proper Man United defender."

Tammy Abraham struck the post at 0-0 and Chelsea left-back smacked the crossbar at 1-0 in a first-half Chelsea dominated. Frank Lampard's side arguably shaded the contest for the first 65 minutes and ended the game with more attempts at goal, more possession and more corners than United.

But after Anthony Martial made it 2-0 just after the hour, United cut loose and won with relative ease to rise up to second in the table.

"You take a win because it's about points first game," Solskjaer added. "Then again, the performance second-half was very pleasing, that was the big plus.

"Coming into half-time, we were a bit lucky. They pinned us back, created chances but we settled a few nerves and a couple of things at half-time and second-half played really well.

"We've had six good weeks but it's still work in progress. We still know we're not anywhere near the finished article. I think we've got loads of improvement to be made, first-half was an example of that.

"Then we settled down a couple of nerves and straightened out a few things. And second-half you see the confidence grows, and we kept the ball miles better, especially after 3-0."
