How Harry and Meghan's baby body language reveals stress and unconfidence... just like every new parent

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle today showed off their brand new royal baby to the world.

In a coordinated and swiftly choreographed appearance within Windsor Castle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex presented sleeping Baby Sussex to the cameras.

Both parents said a few words, before slowly walking back along the corridor to the private quarters, where the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were waiting to meet their newest little great-grandson.

While Meghan had been groomed to perfection for her first appearance since giving birth in the early hours of Monday morning, both displayed several signs that show they've reacted to parenthood in the exact same way as every other new mum and dad.

Here, body language expert Judi James sheds light on their sweet gestures...

The team of two just became a very besotted team of three, with a super-maternal Meghan standing beside her "two best guys in the world", using tie-sign touches on both Harry and the baby that suggested a protective and reassuring maternal role to them both.

She used a variety of hair and face touch gestures to suggest a slight lack of her usual camera confidence and her smile did look sweetly coy, with a dipped head, but it was very much her moment to show her pride in both her guys, which is an inclusive display that suggests evenly shared parenting going forward.

Harry affected a look of calm and his steady cradling looked adept although the way he comfort-rubbed his own hand as well as the baby suggested the air of confidence might have taken some effort. The heavily chewed skin at the sides of his nails looked like evidence of high levels of anxiety leading up to and during the birth.

As she did during their engagement shoot, it was Meghan protectively chatting and ending the chat, rewarding Harry with a loving back-rub on the way out.
