How good is Wissam Ben Yedder amid Man Utd transfer rumours? - Football Manager

With speculation continuing over the future of striker Romelu Lukaku, reports have emerged today that suggest Manchester United are interested in Sevilla striker Wissam Ben Yedder.

The French striker has a release clause of £35.8 million in his current contract, which would be a steal in the current market, particularly for a striker who scored 28 goals in all competitions for the La Liga side last season.

It also might help that United know first-hand just how devastating Ben Yedder can be, after he scored two goals in four minutes at Old Trafford to knock United out of the Champions League in 2017/18.

But, how good is he compared to Lukaku?

And, what are his best attributes?

We used Football Manager 2019 to find out.

Wissam Ben Yedder - Sevilla

Current ability: 149/200

Potential ability: 155/200

Positions: ST/AML/AMC/AMR

Age: 28

Best attributes: Finishing (17), off the ball (17), technique (17), first touch (16), agility (16), dribbling (15), acceleration (15), composure (15), determination (15), flair (15).

According to his Football Manager profile, Ben Yedder is a traditional number nine in many ways, with high finishing, off the ball movement, technique, composure and acceleration attributes, which make him a really dangerous player.

However, he also possesses a number of technical attributes which suggest the Frenchman can drop deep and link with play, like a modern day central striker, with high dribbling, first touch, passing and vision attributes.

His technical prowess is proven further by his ability to play in any attacking position, off the front as a number ten or on either wing, which make him a very useful player.

So how does he compare with current United forward Romelu Lukaku?

Here are the two player's attributes compared.

(Football Manager 2019)

As you can see, Football Manager 2019 suggests that Ben Yedder is a much more technical player than Lukaku, but the Belgium has better physical attributes.

There are big differences in terms of first touch, vision, flair, crossing and dribbling, suggesting the Sevilla man would be better at linking play.

The difference in finishing and technique suggests that the Frenchman would also be more clinical than Lukaku in front of goal, with the 28-year-old also better at off the ball movement.

Ben Yedder's current ability on Football Manager 2019 is 149 out of 200, to put that into context, that's slightly lower than Lukaku (155) and Rashford (151) overall.

Overall, Ben Yedder is a different kind of striker to Lukaku, but is arguably more of a threat in front of goal, which would make him a smart signing this summer.
