How good is rumoured Liverpool target Maxwel Cornet? This is what Football Manager says

As Liverpool prepare for their huge Champions League final clash with Tottenham on June 1, rumours are continuing to swirl regarding possible summer transfer targets.

The latest name to be linked with a move to Anfield is Lyon winger Maxwel Cornet.

The 22-year-old has had a decent season in France, albeit as an impact player off the bench, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists in 27 Ligue 1 appearances, of which only 12 were starts.

The Ivorian also scored three goals in just two Champions League starts last season, including two against Man City back in November last year.

With only Xherdan Shaqiri, Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster as back up options for Liverpool's front three, a move for an attacking player could be on the cards for Jurgen Klopp this summer.

So, what kind of player is Cornet?

What are his best attributes?

And, how much potential does he have?

We asked Football Manager's highly respected database to find out.

Current Ability: 132/200

Potential Ability: 145/200

Top Attributes (out of 20): Acceleration (16), pace (16), natural fitness (15), determination (14), movement (14), stamina (14), finishing (13).

According to his Football Manager 2019 profile, Cornet is more of a wide forward than a winger.

His low dribbling (12) and flair (12) attributes suggests that he's not a player who regularly takes on his opponents in one-on-one situations, instead his strong pace (16) and movement (14) makes him a real danger from wide areas.

The Ivory Coast forward is very quick and has strong physical attributes on Football Manager 2019, but his average finishing (13) and passing (12) suggests that his play in the final third needs to improve in order to become a top player.

The former FC Metz player has a current ability of 132 out of 200 on Football Manager 2019, to put that into perspective, that is around the same level as Harry Wilson (134).

Also, he's got fairly average potential, with a rating of 145 out of 200. This would make him as good as Origi (145) in the future, according to FM.

Football Manager 2019 says that although Cornet is a talented player, Liverpool have already got a number of players at his level in the squad, including the likes of Wilson, Origi, Brewster and Woodburn, so he wouldn't necessarily improve the quality Klopp has at his disposal.

Liverpool should be targeting players at a higher level than Cornet this summer, according to Football Manager 2019.
