How good is reported Liverpool target Nicolas Pepe? We asked Football Manager

Liverpool are always linked with a large number of players every summer, but after their tremendous Champions League victory, this will only intensify the speculation about possible targets.

The latest player to be linked with a move to Anfield is Lille winger Nicolas Pepe, who had a sensational season last time out, directly contributing to 33 goals in Ligue 1.

This red-hot form has seen him become one of the most sough-after properties in European football, due to his unpredictable dribbling style and tremendous goalscoring ability.

So, what kind of player is Pepe?

And, how much potential does he have?

We asked Football Manager's highly respected database to find out.

Nicolas Pepe's profile on Football Manager 2019 (Football Manager 2019)

Nicolas Pepe has had an outstanding season in Ligue 1, scoring 22 goals and registering 11 assists and looking at his Football Manager 2019 profile, it's not hard to see why.

The Ivory Coast international is incredibly fast, a superb dribbler and can finish any chance he's presented with.

His high finishing and composure attributes are very good indeed for a wide player, especially someone as fast as Pepe.

The 24-year-old is a similar style of player to Mohamed Salah, who likes to cut in from the right hand side and on to his strong left foot, where he can either play someone in or have a shot on goal.

Pepe has a current ability of 146 on Football Manager 2019. To put this into context, that ranks him in the same ability category as Trent Alexander-Arnold (149) and Xherdan Shaqiri (150).

However, he has the potential to become better than Naby Keita (153) in a few years time and would become one of Liverpool's best players, but still not anywhere near Salah's level (180).

He may be a similar level of ability to Shaqiri, but Pepe offers a much higher threat in front of goal, whereas Shaqiri is more of a provider.

If Liverpool are after a player who can replicate Salah's style of play, as an option off the bench or as injury cover, Football Manager 2019 says that he could be a great option for the Reds this summer.
