How good is new Leeds United loan signing Ben White? We asked Football Manager

Leeds United have confirmed the signing of defender Ben White on loan for the 2019/20 season, who joins from Premier League side Brighton.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at League One side Peterborough United, making 16 appearances and scoring once.

White has built himself a reputation of being a technically gifted defender, who is adept with the ball at his feet, which is an absolute must if you want to play in a team managed by Marcelo Bielsa.

He joins the likes of Pontus Jansson, Liam Cooper, Gaetano Berardi, Luke Ayling and Aapo Halme as options in central defence for next season.

But, just how good is the young defender?

And, how much potential does he have?

We used the highly respected Football Manager 2019 database to find out.

As you can see from his profile, White has some improving to do, but he has all basic attributes you'd want from a central defender.

The 21-year-old is fast, technically sound, has good tackling and has great jumping ability to boot.

He's been given a current ability of 98 out of 200 on Football Manager 2019. To put that into context, this means he's current rated as highly as the likes of Paudie O'Connor (96) and Oriol Rey (94).

However, White has a potential ability of -75 on the game, which means he could potentially become as good as 150 out of 200.

This is an incredible amount of potential, as White could become much better than Leeds defender Pontus Jansson (139) overall in a few years time.

Football Manager 2019 says that although White would just be a backup option for Leeds next season, he's got the potential to become one of the best players in the Championship, so Elland Road might be the best place for him to realise that talent.
