How Gogglebox casts families on the show and how much they get paid

Gogglebox returned to our screens earlier this month, much to the enjoyment of fans who are keen to see their favourite families sitting down to commentate on the latest TV.

Since it hit our screens back in 2013, Gogglebox has become a firm fan-favourite and has amassed a loyal following - making stars of many of the show's cast members.

An interesting but simple premise, the series has introduced viewers to a range of friends and families who offer their opinions on the week's TV.

It was inspired by the iconic British sitcom The Royle Family.

The BAFTA award winning show is back for its 16th series, with popular families including the Michael family, the Malone family and the Siddiqui family all returning to our screens.

Siblings Sophie and Pete and Izzi and Ellie, as well as best friends Jenny and Lee, are also making their hotly anticipated return.

But many fans are keen to know one thing in particular - how to get cast on the show.

Unfortunately, there's no way to actually apply to be on the show as Gogglebox never advertises for applicants and instead, sends scouts out to search for its new cast members.

Tom Malone Jr, of the much-loved Malone family on the hit reality show, regularly offers insight into what filming the popular programme entails.

Ahead of the show's return, he took to his Instagram stories and asked his 130,282 followers to ask him their burning questions - with many asking about getting cast on Gogglebox.

One fan asked how people could sign up to appear on the show.

But Tom revealed there's sadly no specific way to sign up.

He said: "So you can't actually sign up for Gogglebox, they have to find you so they have a whole team of people that go out looking for new cast members, like going in pubs and speaking to people, ringing up businesses and asking who'd be good for it so there's no way to sign up."

Many people are keen to get the opportunity to be a cast member, particularly as the show's stars get free takeaways to tuck into while they watch all the different TV shows, and each household is paid an estimated £1,500 a month for two six hour shifts of watching telly - though this has not be confirmed by Gogglebox or Channel 4.

*Gogglebox airs Friday nights on Channel 4 at 9pm
