How Gini Wijnaldum kept first Liverpool promise after Paris Saint-Germain transfer

Liverpool have released an emotional video following confirmation Gini Wijnaldum has signed for Paris Saint-Germain.

It has now been confirmed that the Dutchman will sign for the French side as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Wijnaldum has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Ligue 1 club, who finished second to champions Lille last term.

The news means Wijnaldum’s five-year spell at Anfield officially comes to an end, during which time he made 237 appearances for the club and won four major trophies.

Wijnaldum arrived in the summer of 2016 from Newcastle, and was one of Jurgen Klopp’s first signings that year along with Sadio Mane.

A video released by Liverpool shows a compilation of his best and most memorable moments in a Liverpool shirt.

At the start Wijnaldum can be heard talking about Liverpool, in an interview which took place when he first signed for the club five years ago.

"Everything is possible,” said Wijnaldum, when he joined Liverpool in 2016.

“You look at Leicester last season, they were champions. They put the marker down for a lot of teams and we have to try that also.

“Liverpool is a club with a great history but you want to get more history, create history, and be part of that.

“That’s what I want, I came here to win something, and I’m going to do everything to make it happen."

During his time at Anfield, Wijnaldum helped Liverpool win the Champions League, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and a first Premier League title - the club's first league championship for 30 years.

After five years on Merseyside, Wijnaldum leaves the club keeping the promise he made during his very first interview.
