How fans of Newcastle United's Premier League rivals reacted to takeover collapse

Newcastle United fans are still adjusting to the news that the £300m Saudi-led takeover has collapsed after the group pulled out of a proposed deal.

Following a long wait after entering the Premier League's owners and directors test, the consortium pulled the plug on the deal that would have brought an end to Mike Ashley's reign.

Just six weeks before the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season, it raises significant questions as to what is going to happen in preparations for the new season.

New transfers are necessary to revamp the squad ahead of the new season where, without investment, it's likely to be another season of consolidation for the Magpies.

Had the takeover been completed, there was optimism among the fans that a climb up the table could be on the cards and a platform for success over the coming years would be built.

For rival fans, this raised the possibility of a competitive Newcastle side that could become another contender in the hunt for European football that has been blown wide open in recent seasons by the likes of Leicester City and Wolves.

The collapse of the proposed takeover has led to varying reactions from rival supporters and here's some of what they have had to say.
