How fans dug into their own pockets to bring goalscoring hero 'Punky' Paul Randall back to Bristol Rovers

The latest edition of The Subs Bench has landed.

The popular Made In Bristol show has arrived on Bristol Live with Richard Latham and Nigel Turner interviewing a host of former Bristol Rovers and Bristol City players from across the generations.

Former Rovers goal scoring hero Paul Randall is this week's guest as he talks about the remarkable story of getting his break at the club, going from stacking shelves to pulling on the famous blue and white quarters in 1977 as a 19-year-old.

Although Rovers were hardly taking a financial risk on their new signing, handing him a deal worth the same money as he was getting in his supermarket job

Speaking ahead of the Bristol Rovers 3rd Annual Former Players Dinner earlier this month Randall described how he felt after Gasheads clubbed together to raise the money to bring him back to the club from Stoke City, for a second spell.

Randall discusses his highs and lows at Bristol Rovers and in professional football, beating Southampton and Bristol City for the Pirates and scoring at Old Trafford and Anfield for the Potters.
