How Everton transfer policy might be affected by Brexit

It remains unclear how Brexit is going to affect the UK at large so trying to second guess just what kind of impact it might have on Everton remains speculative to say the least but there are certain factors that appear likely to come into place when the country finally does depart from the European Union – providing that it actually happens!

Unlike when the Premier League was formed back in 1992 and the majority of players were from the British Isles, a generation on England's top flight is one of the most cosmopolitan workplaces on the planet, attracting many among the cream of world football's talent.

The EU's freedom of movement rules ensure that players from within its other member states have no issues when it comes to signing for clubs like the Blues.

However, players from outside this area have to fulfil certain work permit criteria to obtain entry in what could be described as a quality control check.

Should the UK leave then players from inside the EU could also be liable to such obstacles and would no longer be able to be signed automatically.

While the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lucas Digne, Morgan Schneiderlin, Maarten Stekelenburg and Andre Gomes were all established internationals when they signed under the potential future rules there may have been issues when recruiting the likes of Kurt Zouma as he only has three French caps; Joao Virginia and even Everton stalwart Seamus Coleman as he was famously plucked from Sligo Rovers for just £60,000 long before he won the first of his 49 international caps to date and became captain of the Republic of Ireland.

The other big change could concern the signing of overseas players for the club's Academy teams with a potential ban on bringing in foreign imports under the age of 18 such as Nico Hansen; Pawel Zuk and Einar Iversen.
