Chelsea may be unlikely to sign Erling Haaland this summer, but that could help them secure another sought-after star.
The Blues placed Haaland at the top of their shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window, but it appears they are unlikely to sign the Borussia Dortmund superstar after it emerged the Norwegian only wants to sign for an 'absolute top club'.
That was according to BILD, who say Chelsea do not fit into that bracket, making the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid favourites to pull off the more than £100million deal.
But there is some good news in that failure to land Haaland could clear the way to sign another target, Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga.
The 18-year-old is reportedly being eyed by Chelsea ahead of the summer, but they are not the only club interested, with Manchester United and Real Madrid also linked.
Real Madrid were said to be favourites, but their pursuit of Haaland is going to prove difficult enough with Los Blancos needing to raise money ahead of the summer.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will already need to find sponsorship deals, sell players and raise money in other ways in order to spend this summer amid the financial issues caused by coronavirus.
But even if they can do that, it's not likely the La Liga giants will be able to sign anyone else if they do land Haaland, meaning they would no longer be in the hunt for Camavinga.
Camavinga has racked up 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season, despite being just 18 years of age, and he is already valued at £54million.
But with just one year remaining on his contract after this summer, Rennes may be forced to sell, and that will be of interest to Chelsea and others, even if it could cost them around £60million.
They might not get the perfect opportunity, but while Real Madrid might fall out of the race, that could still lead others, like Manchester United.
