‘How else are you supposed to wash the dishes then?’: Walmart shopper buys Better Home & Gardens lazy Susan. Then she takes a closer look

A Walmart shopper’s outrage earned 3.9 million views on TikTok after she threatened the retailer’s Better Home & Gardens collection.

“You better count your days,” TikToker Abb (@abbf13) says in her viral clip while holding up a Lazy Susan to the camera.

The kitchenware is a turntable often placed on countertops or tables that uses a rotating system to distribute food or condiments. Abb says she decided to get one after she moved into a new apartment a few weeks ago.

“I figured I’m an adult, let me get a Lazy Susan,” Abb says. However, her new “adult” purchase came with a glaring catch.

Flawed Lazy Susan?

Abb reveals how the wooden contraption included four ceramic dishes that were affixed to it.

“I was wondering before I took off the packaging, how in the hell are they staying on there so good?” she says. “Because they weren’t falling off.”

Abb quickly had her question answered when she removed the dishes. She holds up the Lazy Susan to the camera and shows a large patch of adhesive stuck to the bottom of the tray.

“When I saw this sticky substance on there, I nearly freaked the hell out,” she says.

This glue is what kept the dishes from sliding off, but the problem was now the substance itself.

“I can’t get this off,” Abb vents. “I have been peeling at it for weeks. I’m getting blisters.”

Abb says she even tried to remove it with a spatula, with no luck.

“How am I supposed to get it off to use the Lazy Susan?” Abb’s fingers peel at the adhesive in frustration.

‘It’s supposed to be on there

Viewers understood Abb’s frustration over the Lazy Susan’s design, offering their commiserations.

“I think this crashout is completely valid. How else are you supposed to wash the dishes then????” one wrote. However, others believed the fault lay with Abb.

“User error. Not the product. You tore up the glue that holds them,” one said. “You can still clean them in the sink with a wash cloth.”

Another echoed, “It’s not glue. It’s supposed to be on there. Keeping everything you put on there in place.”

Some defended Abb, saying it’s expected she would want to remove the dishes.

“It’s amazing how many people are saying the bowls are supposed to stay on there when the packaging specifically says they’re removable,” a user wrote.

It seems this TikToker wasn’t lying.

On the product listing on Walmart’s website, the item’s description describes the Stoneware Lazy Susan set as “functional design” and states that all the pieces are separate.

“You don’t have to take the whole tray away from your guest to replenish,” the listing writes. “The separate compartment also makes dishwashing and storing easy.”

The ‘blow dryer’ trick

The listing also specifically mentions the glue that Abb has a vendetta against.

“We use the glue blocks to keep the removable trays. It can be torn off in a whole piece,” it states. “You also can try using a hair dryer on hot air, the glue blocks will tear off easily at high temperature.”

Indeed, the latter trick is what the Better Home & Gardens official TikTok account commented on Abb’s video.

“Hi! The glue is meant to hold the dishes in place during transport. We recommend using a hair dryer, the glue block should come off in one piece with heat!” they wrote.

“Hi queen!” Abb replied. “I got it off & am so excited for dip night in my new home with this!”

The blow dryer trick refers to holding up a hair dryer on its high heat setting to the glue. The high temperature warms the glue, weakening its adhesiveness. This YouTube tutorial can walk you through the process, which is often used to move labels or stickers from home decor and household items.
