The Arsenal Way's presenter and writer Tom Canton (TC) spoke with Writer Bailey Keogh (BK) and Editor Chris Davison (CD) on Friday morning's show and spoke about some of their unpopular opinions this season…
Look away now Liverpool fans and revel in this one Arsenal supporters as Chris believes that Edu and Mikel Arteta may have outdone Liverpool in terms of recent transfer business.
CD: “I would go on to say Arsenal’s transfer business has been better than Liverpool’s over the last couple of seasons.”
TC: “What?”
CD: “Yep, you heard me. Thiago’s come in for £20m and hasn’t done anything. I think when he was previously at Bayern he was absolutely class. But, he’s really struggled in the Prem. They’ve brought in Ozan Kabak from Shalke and he was pretty awful.
“Let’s face it, it was pretty desperate of them in the January window because they were short on numbers. They have quite a few injures in the defence. They brought Ben Davies from Preston.”
TC: “Not a good signing this summer? They signed Konate?”
CD: “Yeah, he’s alright. Apart from that Tom, I don’t think Tsimikas from Olympiciaos, I think he’s been pretty average. Just over the last couple of transfer windows, I think Arsenal have done a better job.
“There’s not been any standouts for me in the last couple of years. They brought in Minamino who went out on loan not long after he arrived, to Southampton. A lot of what appeared to be panic buys from Liverpool.
“Which surprised me because when you talk about transfer business as a whole in a few years, nine out of ten they got it to spot on. We talk about Van Djik, Wijnaldum, Mane, Keita - just to name a few example.
“That has enabled them to get them to where they are today. But, just focusing on the last couple of transfer windows in particular I think Arsenal.”
