How Edinson Cavani's transfer would affect Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal's Champions League hopes

The race to sign Edinson Cavani is wide open with Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United all linked with the striker.

The Paris-Saint Germain forward looks set to leave the Ligue 1 club either this month or in the summer when his contract expires.

That has alerted all three of London's biggest clubs, as well as Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Atletico Madrid remain the frontrunners for the 32-year-old striker's signature but interest from the Premier League could lure him to England.

With all four clubs desperate to finish in the Champions League places this season, Cavani could prove to be the difference if any of them make a bid to sign him this month.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur both need a new marksman after injuries to Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane, whilst Chelsea are looking for competition for Tammy Abraham.

Arsenal are the best stocked in that department although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will only have one year left on his contract come the summer.

As far as the race for Champions League football goes, it's Chelsea who are in the driving seat as they sit five points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United.

Spurs and Arsenal are lagging behind by eight and 10 points, respectively.

However, SportNation have crunched the numbers to see how all three club's odds of a top-four finish would change if they signed Cavani.

They believe that it's Tottenham who could benefit the most of London's trio if they were to sign the PSG striker.

Jose Mourinho's side are currently priced at 11/2 to finish in the top four and those odds would reduce to 9/2 if Cavani signed, a 2.8% change.

Arsenal would drop from 18/1 to 16/1, a 0.62% change, whilst the bookmakers don't feel Cavani's arrival would impact Chelsea as they remain 2/5 for a top-four finish with or without him.
