How Eddie Gray has paid tribute to Leeds United and England legend Norman Hunter

Former Leeds United winger Eddie Gray has paid tribute to Elland Road legend Norman Hunter by reminding supporters just how good a player he really was.

Hunter passed away early this morning after a short fight with coronavirus, the club have confirmed.

The tributes have since poured in for the World Cup-winning defender who made 726 appearances during his time with Leeds who was known amongst supporters at 'Bites yer Legs Hunter'.

But Gray was keen to remind supporters that Hunter far more than just a fierce tackler as he chatted with TalkSport this morning, describing him as one of the very best footballers ever to wear Leeds colours.

“People used to call him ‘Bite yer Legs Norman Hunter’ because he was a ferociously hard player, and he enjoyed that reputation, but he was also a terrific footballer,” he explained.

“He was a great reader of the game who had a great left foot on him and was a great passer of the ball. He was so influential in our team.

“He was a great lad who was very popular around the dressing room. Nobody has a bad word to say about Norman.

He added: “There have been a lot of great players walk through the gates at Elland Road, but Norman was right up there with the very best of them.”
