How Dundee United could line up next season as Zander Clark in line to be among 'five or six' new signings

Dundee United are looking to strengthen their side as boss Tam Courts is set to make 'five or six' new signings in the summer.

The side sit fourth in the cinch Premiership this season, three points ahead of Malky MacKay's Ross County side in fifth with just six points left to play for.

But the Tangerines are hoping to build on this season's success by adding a few new names to the squad a the prospect of a European adventure next campaign edges closer.

Loanee - such as Mark McNulty and Dylan Levitt - will be making their way back to their parent club at the end of this campaign with the likes of Kevin McDonald, Max Biamou and Adrian Sporle also out of contract.

Courts has acknowledged that his require some strengthening in wide areas, with more attacking and midfield options needed.

The Tannadice side are hoping to convince Ian Harkes to stay a little longer despite his current deal running out at the end of this campaign, but it may not all work out.

Also out of contract this summer is keeper Benji Siegrist.

In a bid to replace the No.1, the club are set to open up pre-contract talks with current St Johnstone stopped Zander Clark who is out of contract in the summer.

Tannadice chiefs have informed Saints that they intend to begin negotiations with the Scotland squad member.

The Tayside outfit are also reportedly interested in Livingston attacking midfielder Alan Forrest after his impressive efforts this season. But no offer has been made yet.

Forrest has been consistent for David Martindale's Livi side this campaign, making 32 appearances and netting five goals so far.

Peter Pawlett has been hindered by injury for quite some time, but after undergoing surgery last month the midfielder is set to be back to match fitness for the beginning of next season.

Dundee United have introduced a number of youngsters into the first team over the last few seasons with Archie Meekison and Lewis Neilson making their way into the staring XI.

Academy graduate Ross Graham made his league debut against Celtic at Parkhead back in January and has since been a staple in Court's squad.

The 21-year-old left sided defender is sure to be a key man in the team next campaign.

Fellow defender Scott McMann - who has appeared 26 times since arriving at Tannadice last summer - is likely to appear alongside an experienced Charlie Mulgrew to make up United's back three.

Tony Watt will be hoping to build on this campaign next season after arriving in Dundee from Motherwell in January.

But with just one goal in 13 league appearances, Tam Courts may be looking for added firepower, especially as fellow frontman McNulty is set to leave after his season long loan from English Championship side Reading.

Nicky Clark is a likely option up front for Courts after the striker penned a deal to keep him at the club for another 12 months.

Calum Butcher will not play for Tam Court's side again this season due to 'personal reasons' but the midfielder is in contract until 2023.
