How does the Genesis Uplink Terminal work in CS2?

The Genesis Uplink Terminal is a part of the Counter-Strike 2 update on Sept. 16, which acts as a special case-style reward system tied to the new Genesis Collection skins.

The Genesis Collection is the newest skin set introduced with the recent CS2 update, featuring 17 unique finishes created by community members. Unlike traditional skin collections, items from the Genesis Collection are only accessible by opening the Genesis Uplink Terminal, a special case awarded randomly through the weekly drop system.

Here’s everything you need to know about how the Genesis Uplink Terminal works in CS2.

Genesis Uplink Terminal in CS2, explained

If lucky, you will receive these Terminals through the Weekly Care Package, similar to how the weapon case drops work. Once you get it, you can access the Genesis Uplink Terminal right from your inventory.

Select the Genesis Uplink Terminal, follow the prompts, and you will unlock a weapon skin from the Genesis Collection, one of the 17 community creations.

The drop system is random, meaning not every weekly drop will guarantee a Genesis Uplink Terminal.

How to open Genesis Uplink Terminal CS2

Here’s how to open a Genesis Uplink Terminal in Counter-Strike 2, and how it works:

  1. Once in your inventory, press the green “Unseal Terminal” button to open it.
  2. Then, a chat with an arms dealer opens up. That’s basically a bot that will offer you one of the weapons in the collection.
  3. If you like the weapon deal it offers, click and hold on the accept button in green. If not, simply click and hold on the gray button to decline the offer.
  4. Continue doing this until you get an offer that you actually like.

Remember, you only get five chances per Terminal. So, if you don’t get a red weapon skin within those five chances, you will have to wait for the next drop or purchase a Sealed Genesis Terminal from the Steam community market.

Additionally, if you decline an offer, it’s permanently declined, which means you cannot get back to it. You will be able to trade the weapon skins after a week.

How to get weekly Genesis Uplink Terminal drops in CS2

You must have Prime status and level up once per week (5,000 XP needed) to receive your weekly drop. This means Competitive and Premier modes are your best friends here, as they reward the most XP per round won (30).

Like always, the Care Package contains four random items, from which two can be selected. The Genesis Uplink Terminal is one of the possible rewards, along with other weapon skins, graffiti, and sticker capsules.

The Genesis Uplink Terminal case appears in the Care Package only, while the Genesis Collection is part of the active drop pool. In CS2, missing a weekly drop means the reward is lost and you can’t claim it later. The weekly drop system is designed so that you must claim your Care Package, which may include the Genesis Uplink Terminal, within the week it becomes available.

If you don’t claim it during that period, the drop expires and does not carry over or accumulate for future weeks. Therefore, it’s important to regularly check your inventory and claim your weekly drops promptly to ensure you don’t miss out on these exclusive items.
