How does Patrick Bamford's Leeds United goals tally compare to Whites' strikers of the past?

Leeds United's Patrick Bamford has transformed from a player many deemed unfit to lead a Premier League attack, into a striker many feel was unfortunate to miss out on an England call-up.

Neutral and Leeds-inclined observers alike have been wowed by Bamford's prolific heroics in front of goal for the Whites this season.

The 27-year-old is on 14 goals, and counting, as Leeds head into the final stretch of the campaign.

Bamford is averaging a goal roughly every other game, which is a tremendous return for any forward's first full season in the Premier League.

While reaching 20 goals seems unlikely given there are only eight games remaining - including ties against Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United - Bamford can move past previous Leeds United legends in the single-season scoring stakes.

Already, he has surpassed the top scorer tallies of 1994/95, 1995/96, 1996/97, 2001/02 and 2003/04, accounting for half of Leeds United's time as a Premier League club before last season's promotion.

What is all the more impressive about Bamford's haul is that he could very capably exceed his goals tally from last year - a 46-game Championship campaign, against lesser opposition.

In 2019/20, Bamford managed 16 goals, a respectable haul for a promotion-challenging side, but by no means outstanding.

Here's how Bamford measures up against Leeds United's Premier League top scorers of the past:

2003-04 - Mark Viduka (11 PL; 12 all comps)

2002-03 - Mark Viduka (20 PL; 22 all comps)

2001-02 - Robbie Fowler/Mark Viduka (12 PL; Viduka 17 all comps)

2000-01 - Mark Viduka (17 PL; 22 all comps)

1999-00 - Michael Bridges (19 PL; 21 all comps)

1998-99 - Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink (18 PL; 20 all comps)

1997-98 - Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink (16 PL; 22 all comps)

1996-97 - Brian Deane/Lee Sharpe (5 PL; Rod Wallace 8 all comps)

1995-96 - Tony Yeboah (12 PL; 19 all comps)

1994-95 - Tony Yeboah (12 PL; 13 all comps)

1993-94 - Rod Wallace (17 PL; 17 all comps)

1992-93 - Lee Chapman (14 PL; 18 all comps)

Considering Leeds United played 42 matches per season in the first three editions of the Premier League, and Bamford has equalled or bettered Leeds' top scorer in two of those three campaigns, it goes some way to emphasising just how effective the England hopeful has been this year.

Marcelo Bielsa has been rewarded for his faith in Bamford, and despite the fact he is the solitary recognised centre-forward at the club, there is hardly a clamouring for reinforcements in that position over the summer.

That in particular speaks to how well-received his performances - and marked improvement in front of goal - have been on the virtual terraces.

Another handful to add to his tally would do little harm to the argument that Bamford is fast-becoming one of Leeds United's most revered Premier League strikers.
