How did Neighbours end? Spoilers for final episode as soap says emotional farewell

While fans in the UK will have to wait until Friday night to see the last episode, the Neighbours finale has already gone out to viewers in Australia, with many fighting back tears as credits rolled.

It came as huge blow to those who regularly watch the show both in the UK and Down Under, when it was announced earlier this year that it was being axed, with Channel 5 pulling the plug, stating they wanted to invest more in original home grown shows.

And, after another broadcaster wasn't found in Australia, the tough decision was made to end Neighbours after 37 years of it being on our screens. There was huge outcry across the world to the announcement, from fans and famous faces, many of whom have been residents of Ramsay Street over the years.

Over the past week, there have been a number of Neighbours returning cast members on screen as the episodes built towards the finale, with Izzy Hoyland back to cause a stir as it was revealed she was the new love interest of Mal Kennedy, the son of the man she had an explosive affair with years ago. Other familiar faces seen in the run up to the last episode included Melissa Bell as iconic character Lucy Robinson and Daniel MacPherson who was back as Joel.

The Neighbours finale will air in the UK on Friday night at 9pm on Channel 5 but, if you want to know what happened beforehand, here are a few finale spoilers...
