What is it like to marry your first love? To meet someone on a plane? Lose a child? Be adopted? Lose your sight? Become lonely? Life often leads us down unexpected paths, and while many can only imagine the above, some will be familiar with the joy and heartache of these experiences.

Today we are launching a new series asking readers to tell us about life’s big experiences. We want you to tell us how it feels to deal with everything from the sublime (celebrating a huge win) to the ridiculous (making your cat an internet star).

To kick off our series we want to hear from people who have waited to have sex. In a society in which discussion of sex, and sexual pressures, can sometimes feel ubiquitous, how does it feel to be a virgin in later life? What has led you to wait? Do you feel pressure to have sex? And do you discuss this with friends, or is it a subject you usually tend to keep private?

You can share all your views (anonymously or using a pseudonym, if you prefer) by filling in the form below. To recommend another area for our readers to talk candidly about please email sarah.marsh@theguardian.com.
