How does Game Of Thrones end? Yara Greyjoy has told her daughter...

Game of Thrones star Gemma Whelan has revealed on Good Morning Britain that she has told her daughter about the show’s secret ending.

The actress, who plays Iron-born warrier Yara Greyjoy, spoke to Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway following the launch of the highly anticipated final series.

The first episode of the fifth outing aired on Sky Atlantic at 2am this morning - and 3.1 million tuned in despite it being repeated this evening at 9pm.

How the story will end has been a massive talking point with fans ever since show bosses said that the eighth season would be the last.

Multiple theories have been concocted by eagle eyed viewers desperate to find out who will sit on the Iron Throne.

On the ITV breakfast programme, Gemma was asked whether she had told anyone the ending after Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow, revealed on the Graham Norton Show that he’d let slip to one person.

He said: "The intensity of finishing something like this and not being able to tell anybody is so hard.

"It got too much, so I've told one person – my friend James, who doesn't watch the show and fell asleep in the first episode of the very first season."

It turns out Gemma has told her daughter - but don’t worry, there’s no fear that she will leak the ending.

She continued: “People are definitely saying, please don’t tell me [how it ends], don’t spoil it, don’t say anything.

“And I wouldn't dream of it, I’m so well trained in keeping quiet now.”

Speaking of whether the ending is satisfying, she hinted: “I’m just going to say ‘yes’.”

The fate of Yara currently hangs in the balance after her uncle Euron's fleet attacked her ships on their way to Dorne.

Gemma explained why she thinks the show, based on the books A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin, is so popular.

“I think because yes, it’s fantasy, but it’s also really routed in human flaws, character, family drama and politics. They’re very realistic characters even though they’re in fantasy land.

“And I think they’re very relatable and it’s just so brilliantly written.”
