How does Andor connect to the Star Wars universe? Spin-off drops on Disney+

Star Wars is one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood history and since it first came to Disney+ with the show The Mandalorian, it has exploded in size and scope.

Coming after the spin-off series’ The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, the new show Andor picks up with a character fans haven’t seen since 2016, once again played by Diego Luna.

Set between the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, the series will explore the dark underbelly of the galaxy.

The Empire is at the height of its power and dominance and the Rebellion is nothing more than a rag-tag group of freedom fighters with a dream.

Here is everything you need to know about the new Disney+ series, Andor.

How does Andor connect to the Star Wars universe?

Diego Luna reprises his role as Cassian Andor (Lucas film)

Andor follows the titular character of Cassian Andor, who was last seen in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

This is a prequel to that film, as during its events Cassian heroically gave his life for the Rebellion on the Imperial planet of Scarif.

The show is set five years before that, when a younger Cassian is helping build the Rebellion alongside other familiar faces.

As the official synopsis reads: “Andor will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor's journey to discover the difference he can make.

“The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved.

“It's an era filled with danger, deception, and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.”

Overall, it is set in that 19-year time period between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope.

It is also set around four years after the events seen in the last show, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The chronological order of the Star Wars films and TV shows are as follows:

  • Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)
  • Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002)
  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008 - 2020)
  • Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005)
  • The Bad Batch (2021 - present)
  • Solo (2018)
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
  • Star Wars: Rebels (2014 - 2018)
  • Andor (2022 - present)
  • Rogue One (2016)
  • Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)
  • Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
  • Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi (1983)
  • The Mandalorian (2019 - present)
  • The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
  • Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)
  • Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
  • Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

Video games, books, comics and other side-material is not counted in the above list.
