How did you find out about the new North Tyneside guidance? Fill in our new survey

It is the latest Government Covid announcement to baffle the North East.

Now we want to know how you found out about the Government update which suggested people shouldn't visit or leave North Tyneside.

The area is one of eight Indian variant hotspots which has had new guidelines published by the Government.

Those living there were urged not to leave the area unless it is a vital trip, while the Gov.uk website also being warned not to meet others indoors in a bid to try and stop the mutant strain spreading.

However Downing Street have since confirmed these are guidelines and not law, while North Tyneside Council's Director of Public Health has assured the borough is subject to no travel restrictions and will see no local lockdown.

It followed backlash from local leaders who claimed they hadn't even been consulted about the development.

Now ChronicleLive is asking our readers how you found out about the new guidance.

We have published a new survey on the guidance, published below, which comes after around 40 cases of the fast-spreading strain were detected in North Tyneside.

Norma Redfearn, North Tyneside’s elected mayor, claimed the new travel advice was “disproportionate for North Tyneside".

And despite a Downing Street spokesperson confirming that the current situation in the area was still being monitored, Wendy Burke, North Tyneside Council's Director of Public Health, has reassured the public: "There are no local lockdowns.
