'How did that not get called' - Aston Villa fans make same complaint after defeat to Liverpool

Aston Villa fans took to social media to claim they were unfairly denied a penalty during Liverpool's 1-0 win at Anfield.

The build up to the game was dominated by Steven Gerrard's return to his old stomping ground and the former Reds captain left Merseyside without a point.

Mohamed Salah scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after he was brought down by Villa skipper Tyrone Mings.

But Villa supporters were adamant that they to should have been awarded a spot-kick after striker Danny Ings was allegedly fouled by goalkeeper Alisson.

No penalty was given and Jurgen Klopp's side picked up all three points.

Taking to Twitter, multiple fans called Liverpool 'LiVARpool' while another asked 'where was our penalty?'

The victory keeps Liverpool a point behind Manchester City who beat Wolverhampton Wanderers in Saturday's early kick-off.

But the Reds remain a point above Chelsea who beat Leeds United 3-2 in a 3pm game on Saturday afternoon.
