How did Line of Duty end last series? Fans beside themselves as BBC drama returns

In what many fans are dubbing the TV moment of the year so far, Line of Duty returns for a new series on Sunday night.

The smash hit drama about the investigations of AC-12, a controversial police anti-corruption unit, has been gathering pace and fans with each new series.

There have been five so far and now the countdown is on for series 6, which you can get a teaser in the above video from the BBC, before episode one at 9pm on Sunday.

Fans have had an agonising two year wait for their Line of Duty fix and series 5 was most definitely a dramatic one as everyone wanted to know who the hell H was.

The last series was focused on AC-12's investigation into Operation Pear Tree, a highly classified undercover operation set up to expose links between organised criminality and the police service.

What they didn't know is, right at thick of things was DS John Corbett, Stephen Graham's famous on screen alias, who, after infiltrating an organised crime group, committed criminal acts himself, including an armed ambush on police, in an attempt to get closer to the masterminds of the crimes and police corruption and ultimately expose H's identity.

Unfortunately for DS Corbett, his efforts put him in mortal peril and, after being betrayed by second-in-command Lisa McQueen (Rochenda Sandall), he was brutally murdered, in scenes that had fans shouting at their TV sets, with many still struggling to get their heads round his shocking death.

As well as leaving viewers open mouthed, Corbett's death caused no end of drama, with the fall-out seeing Ted Hastings suspended, investigated and charged with conspiracy by DCS Patricia Carmichael.

During a tense interrogation a determined Hastings turned the tables by exposing lawyer Gill Biggeloe as part of the OCG.

Series 5 ended with Hastings back in charge at AC-12, McQueen given immunity and Ryan Pilkington, Corbett's killer, inducted as a student police officer.

All caught up? Well series 6 looks set to be just as dramatic.

Vicky McClure, Adrian Dunbar and Martin Compston are all back in action in the Line of Duty cast for series 6, alongside Kelly Macdonald makes her debut as guest lead Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson, the senior investigating officer on an unsolved murder case whose suspicious conduct attracts the attention of Anti-Corruption.

Excitement for the new run is at fever pitch, with fans counting the minutes until episode 1.

One tweeted: "I am so beyond excited for line of duty tonightttt," and another posted: "Line of Duty tonight and words cant express how excited I am for it It is without a doubt, the best British Crime Drama, maybe Drama alone, of all time CUMMON I NEED TO WATCH IT NOW!"
