How Deepy's tragic death broke nation's hearts as friends went to desperate lengths to try and save 22-year-old

The moment Amandeep 'Deepy' Singh was reported missing on Thursday, friends, family and strangers united in their efforts to do everything they could to help.

Thousands of posts were shared on social media to try and find 22-year-old Deepy, with photographs shared of his distinctive grey Audi RS3 car.

Hundreds of people attempted to reach out to him on Instagram, among them complete strangers who wanted to do their bit, after Deepy, from Castleford, posted about his battle with depression.

Several people revealed that they were out searching, with the focus believed to be on Leeds and Bradford as well as Castleford.

One man posted: "Cmon my brother we still out here searching!!! We gonna throw the BIGGEST shut down when we find you."

Another said: "Hey Deepa. Please contact me, let's meet in our Khalsa Aid office and chat. I promise you there will be no judgments. A cup of coffee and plenty of time. Come on young man...I hope you will consider it."

One woman posted: "Where are you? We're looking for you all over. So many people care about you."

Many well-wishers sent him direct messages through social media.

Some offered a place for Deepy to stay over.

One man said: "Bro I sent you a DM. If you don't want to go home, you can come to mine. We can talk.

"I'll take a week off work. I'll take a month off, just come through and reach out bro."

An appeal by a friend on Twitter, posted on Thursday evening, was retweeted over 3,000 times.

Tragically, their efforts were ultimately in vain.

Police confirmed on Friday that a man from Castleford had died after falling from Woodhouse Lane car park in Leeds city centre.

The man was identified locally as Amandeep Singh. He was 22 and was described as a man with a "pure soul" who had a passion for cars.

Following his death there was an outpouring of grief as well as tributes to the well-loved young man.

One friend, Saffron Kemp, has set up a Go Fund Me page to raise money for the Minds Matter charity.

Saffron posted: "On the 17th December 2021, we lost a beautiful friend to his battle with mental health.

"Deep was a loving caring friend with nothing but time for everyone. He had a passion for his cars and loved to give everyone smoke.

"Please donate towards Mind - a mental health charity that offers support for people going through hardship. We can't ever bring you back Deep, but we can help others in your place.

"This fundraiser isn’t associated to Deep's family. It is solely set up by one of his friends. Thank you."

The fundraising page has raised almost £900 and can be found here
