‘How?’: Dealership worker looks at the CarFax for Nissan Altima. Then he sees how many owners it’s had in 6 years

A car dealership worker dubbed a Nissan Altima the “most ran-through car” he’s ever come across.

“How are you the 12th owner of a [expletive] 2018 Nissan Altima?” Kenny (@kennysellls) says in a viral TikTok video that’s earned almost half a million views as of writing.

Kenny shows TikTok viewers the CarFax, flabbergasted at the thought that one car can have 12 owners in just 6 years. The CarFax also states that the car has 148,000 miles and has been in a single-vehicle collision.

His clip may have been less than 30 seconds, but the CarFax was surprising enough that viewers were just as shocked.

“Not a single payment was made on this car in it’s lifetime,” one top comment read.

Another joked about the one consistency in the car’s 6-year existence: “The repo man has been the only consistent person in that car’s life.”

Hate for Altima

Several viewers weren’t surprised after learning the car was a Nissan Altima.

“I was like WHAT!?!?” one user wrote. “Then I saw it was an Altima. It all made sense after that.”

Another echoed, “I’m not worried about the 12 owners. I’m more shocked that it was only one accident in a Nissan Altima. It should have 10 by now.”

“It’s a Nissan Altima come on man that’s a given,” one added.

The majority of viewers were just there to roast Nissan, and one shared that this model was known for repos.

“Purchased and repossessed… Resold and repossessed lol. Rinse and repeat. Altimas are one of the highest repossessed cars,” they wrote.

Is this true?

According to Auto Alot, the viewer isn’t wrong. The Nissan Altima is listed as one of the cars notorious for repossession. Others in the list included the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Chevy Silverado, and several others.

“The Altima’s high volume of sales and strong resale value make it a frequent target for lenders seeking to mitigate losses,” the site states. “Even with its lower price compared to other vehicles, the financial pressures on buyers contribute to its repossession rate.

“Defaulting on payments is more likely under these circumstances, leading to repossession,” it concludes.

Nissan also markets to buyers with limited financial means, in addition to helping buyers with poor credit get approved for loans.

But how good (or bad) is Nissan?

Viewers may have been right about Nissan Altimas getting repossessed left and right, but is it even a reliable car to begin with? The Nissan Altima earned a soft 6/10 rating per Car and Driver. The review starts off strong: “The Nissan Altima was never excellent by our measures, and the intervening years since its last full redesign have rendered it even less impressive.”

The review concludes that while the sedan is comfortable, there just aren’t enough things “right” with it for it to be a good pick.

However, it still earned an overall 5/5 rating for crashes. Despite all the hate for the Altima, buyers can’t deny the affordability, especially if it only has 148,000 miles. A 13th owner may be in its near future, and indeed, one of Kenny’s followers vowed to be just that.
