How Dani Ceballos avoided transfer complication to feature for Arsenal against Aston Villa

Dani Ceballos will once again be playing his football at Arsenal next season after completing another loan deal at the Emirates Stadium.

After finding out he wasn’t part of Zinedine Zidane’s plans at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Spanish midfielder was keen to get back to north London.

In these unusual times, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, signings from some abroad countries - including Spain - will have to self-isolate to prevent the spread.

However, for Ceballos, because he is part of the “elite sports” bubble after starting pre-season with Real Madrid, the midfielder is allowed to go straight into playing and training with the Gunners.

The government's rules for quarantine mean that elite sportspeople are exempt from needing to isolate after arriving in the country.

That is why tournaments such as the Nations League can take place with players flying across Europe for matches.

It also meant Ceballos was able to take part in the Gunners' pre-season friendly against Aston Villa.

The 24-year-old midfielder impressed for the Gunners last season - particularly since football returned from its hiatus.

Ceballos’ relationship with manager Mikel Arteta was a defining reason why he chose to play his football at the Emirates for the second successive season.

The Spaniard said to Arsenal’s official website : "I spoke to the coach last year, before the final, and told him that I wanted to stay at Arsenal and win titles.

"I’d been really happy with what Mikel had built at the club since he came in.

"I had a great time at this club last season and there was never any doubt in my mind that I wanted to come back."
