A local councillor says the community of Ballynanty, Co Limerick is in 'total shock' after the death of a boy on Sunday night.
The boy, believed to be aged 11-years-old, was found with multiple injuries at around 7pm last night.
It’s understood the boy was fatally assaulted and a man in his late 20s has since been arrested in connection with the death.
Sinn Fein councillor John Costelloe told the Irish Mirror that a meeting has been scheduled with residents today to discuss the tragedy.
Speaking to the Irish Mirror, he said: "I’m in total shock at the fact a boy has been found dead in the area.
“My heart goes out the family. It’s nearly too much to take in.
“I just can’t believe an 11-year-old boy has been taken from our community.

“I’ll meet with residents in the neighbourhood on Monday morning.
“I’ll be liaising with gardai also, to find out how such a tragedy could happen.”
A two-storey terraced house where the body was found, and which is situated in the shadow of Thomond Park rugby stadium, was sealed off last night.
A cul de sac of 11 houses including the house where the body was discovered is also sealed off.
According to a local woman the alarm was raised between 7pm and 8pm.
A garda spokesman confirmed a man, in his 20s, was arrested in connection with the fatal assault.
He added: "Shortly after 7pm Gardaí discovered a body of a boy at a house in the Ballynanty area of Limerick City. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
"Gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances of his death.
