How Corrie's Sally Carman fought back from COVID to film the dramatic murder trial

Coronation Street had to seamlessly add dramatic murder trial scenes featuring Abi Franklin after actress Sally Carman fell ill with Covid-19.

Sally was off work for a month after being stricken with the virus, so vital Corrie scenes showing her character Abi at the court were swiftly filmed and added after she returned.

After she had recovered the soap star managed to film her scenes, co-starring Michael Le Vell as her partner Kevin, within two days with a crew member who read out the lines.

"It was very different for me because I came down with Covid so I was off for a month because I got it pretty bad," she said.

"So I ended up filming all of my bits in two days separately being read the lines by a first-aidee.

"So there was no-one else on the courtroom set with me apart from Mike Le Vell and that was it."

Sally also filmed outside the court with Paul Opacic who plays Stefan Brent the father of killer Corey Brent who was on trial for murdering her son Seb Franklin.

"It was very, very strange and I still wasn't 100-per-cent so it went like a bit of dream," she said.

"But watching it back I'm absolutely blown away by how brilliantly it all fits together and how well Nicky Jones the director did. He was fantastic.

"For me it was not so much intense but quite quick."

Sadly Abi failed in her attempt to nail Stefan for trying to buy Corey's innocence through bribery ahead of Friday's verdict.

After he called the police on her accusing her of trespass, she made it to the court in time to hear that Kelly Neelan had been jailed for murder but Corey had been freed.

Viewers saw through powerful flashbacks that gang ringleader Corey had repeatedly kicked Seb, leading to his death, while Kelly had tried to hold him back in the vile gang attack back in May.
