When schools closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, many children were left missing their friends.
After recently moving to a new home in Blyth, the prospect of isolation felt more intense for five-year-old Annee Coates-Brown.
But her creative idea to spread kindness in the community has sparked a new friendship for her in her street.
Annee said: “I wanted to write to people who had rainbows in their windows to make them feel happy.”
The creative youngster, who loves art, dug out her colouring pencils and crafted special ‘stay safe’ cards for all of the houses in her street with rainbows displayed in their windows.
Decorated with colourful rainbows, hearts and smiley faces, each card read: “Stay safe, love Annee, age five.”
In the days that followed, Annee received a handwritten reply and drawings from two sisters aged eight and five who live opposite her.
The adorable letters asked if she had any pets, which school she went to and what were her hobbies.
Annee is now excited about being invited meet her new friends when the coronavirus pandemic ends.
In a letter, the sisters wrote: “Once this is all over, do you want to come over to my house?” and signed their letter with drawings of animals.
Annee said: “I’m excited to go to their house to play and meet them and see their face - It will be like a face reveal .
“I will be able to cuddle them when I see them for the first time too, so I’m excited.”
