How coronavirus deaths in Bristol have risen over past week

The coronavirus death toll has gone up by more than 20% in Bristol in just one week.

Figures released from NHS England show the number of people who have died at the University Hospitals Bristol Trust, which runs Bristol Royal Infirmary, rise by 13 in one week.

While there was a rise of eight patients at Southmead Hospital in the same period.

This has brought the overall number of deaths in both Bristol hospitals to 123, with 63 at UHB and 60 at North Bristol Trust.

There has also been a surge of confirmed cases in Bristol today (April 22) - with almost 500 people having tested positive.

Our city's total stands at 497 following a rise of 19.

While the number of patients testing positive for the virus in South Gloucestershire stands at 288 after an increase of one.

In Bath and North East Somerset, a further three positive tests returned, bringing the total to 182.

North Somerset now has 175 cases after a rise of six.

The figures come on the same day it's been revealed people who live in some parts of Bristol can volunteer to take part in a coronavirus vaccine trial, which pays out £235 to each person.

The potential Covid-19 inoculation, developed at the University of Oxford, will be trialled on humans in the UK from tomorrow (April 23).
