How close Man Utd are to signing two players 'Bruno Fernandes wants' at Old Trafford

Bruno Fernandes is reportedly keen for Manchester United to make two new signings in this summer's transfer window.

The Red Devils finished second in the Premier League last season and have been showing remarkable levels of improvement in recent months.

But United still finished 12 points behind champions Manchester City, and need to strengthen this summer to close the gap and potentially win a first title since 2013 next season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has his eye on a number of players including Harry Kane, Kieran Trippier and long-term target Jadon Sancho.

Man United are expected to sign at least one of these three, but star player Fernandes is reportedly keen for the Red Devils to bolster two specific areas.

According to The Sun, Fernandes would like to see Solskjaer bring in a new defensive midfielder and a centre-back.

In recent months, Manchester United have been linked with Declan Rice and Raphael Varane, who play in these positions.

West Ham midfielder Rice is currently on England duty while Real Madrid defender Varane is with the France squad for the Euros.

Both players will be focusing solely on helping their nations go as far as they can in the competition.

But at the back of their minds, they will be considering their futures in domestic football.

Rice moving to Manchester United could depend on his performances at the Euros.

Harry Maguire secured a transfer to Old Trafford following the World Cup in 2018 after he put in a series of strong performances in an England shirt.

Rice standing out in this England team will of course drive up his price, but it could also make up United's mind that the midfielder is ready to make the step up.

Varane, on the other hand, has nothing to prove given he already has titles and Champions League trophies to his name.

And the transfer wages on whether the Frenchman wants to join United.

Varane has spent the vast majority of his career at Real Madrid, but he is out of contract next summer, meaning something has to give before the transfer window closes.

Either Real Madrid convince the centre-back to sign fresh terms with Los Blancos and Manchester United look elsewhere, or the two parties agree to let the player leave.

Should Varane leave then he will be available at a reduced price on account of his expiring contract, but United should have no problems getting the transfer done as Real Madrid will want to make at least some money.
