How close Chelsea's N'Golo Kante came to being named in the 2019 FIFA FIFPro World XI

The Men's World XI of 2019 did not have a single current Chelsea player.

Eden Hazard did make the team thanks to his efforts for the Blues in the Premier League as well as the Europa League last season, but technically doesn't count as he's now a Real Madrid player.

In addition, the only two Premier League representatives in the all-star team are Liverpool pair Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk.

They are joined in defence by Real Madrid duo Marcelo and Sergio Ramos as well as Dutch wonderkid Matthijs de Ligt who joined Juventus this summer on the back of a strong showing in the Champions League with Ajax last season.

Luka Modric - the 2018 Ballon d'or winner - and new Barcelona starlet Frenkie de Jong are the recognised central midfielders in this team.

And they were almost joined by N'Golo Kante .

The 28-year-old began the 2018/2019 campaign as a World Cup winner and finished it by claiming a Europa League winner's medal.

However, he just missed out on a place in the World XI.

As seen below, the ranking for the positions can be seen and Kante actually lost out to Hazard who is classed as a midfielder instead of a forward.

What is for certain is Chelsea fans wouldn't swap Kante for many midfielders in the world right now.

Following four games out, the 28-year-old made a goalscoring return in the 2-1 loss against Liverpool at the weekend and offered a positive injury update following the game at Stamford Bridge.

"I'm feeling better, I tried to recover for four weeks from my ankle injury and I was good to play," he told Chelsea's  the 5th stand .

"I think my ankle is alright now."

With that said, it's likely that Kante will be rested for Wednesday night's Carabao Cup tie against Grimsby Town as Chelsea have big games against Brighton as well as Lille in the Champions League on the horizon.
