John Krasinski was on the short list to play one of Marvel's much loved heroes, Captain America, but was tripped up by Chris Hemsworth's abs.

The Office star, alongside the likes of Smallville's Michael Cassidy and Friday Night Lights' Scott Porter, were invited to screen test for the part back in 2010 and he was initially really excited.

Speaking on Conan, Krasinski recalled the opportunity saying it "was a big deal for me" as a huge fan of Marvel and superheroes, but he pin-pointed the exact moment he knew it wasn't the gig for him.

"I was still shirtless and feeling pretty good about myself - wasn't 13 Hours yet but felt pretty good," he told host Conan O'Brien.

"All of a sudden Chris Hemsworth walked by as Thor and went 'hey mate', and I went 'I'm good. This is stupid, I shouldn't...I'm not going to be Captain America, it's fine."

In the end, the role went to Hollywood heart throb Chris Evans who has continued to play the part throughout three Captain America films and another four films for the wider Marvel franchise.
