How Chelsea's pre-season plans could be affected this summer due to coronavirus outbreak

The whole world has been massively effected by the coronavirus outbreak, including Chelsea.

Callum Hudson-Odoi was one of the early positive cases of the virus, however has now fully recovered from his illness.

The incident meant that the Cobham training ground was shutdown and the players were put into self isolation.

Football is currently on hold right now, with the Premier League and FA announcing that it is set to restart at the earliest on April 30.

However, that again is looking like a wildly optimistic date with the whole of the UK currently in a lockdown situation.

The Blues players are scheduled to be returning to training on April 6, however once again that is going to be dictated by whether or not there are more announcements by the governing bodies.

Uefa announced that Euro 2020 is set to be pushed back 12 months, leaving space for the domestic leagues to finish their campaigns if it is safe to do so.

The Premier League is also ready to allow seasons to finish beyond the usual June cut-off, meaning that seasons might well finish in the summer.

However, it is going to have a huge knock-on effect for many of the clubs who often use pre-season to head around the globe.

Pre-season tours have become a lucrative business for the big clubs to reach far areas of the globe and appease sponsorship deals.

For the past few summers, the Blues have been in America, Singapore, China, Australia and Japan, as well as other matches around Europe.

However, this summer could be very different for the Blues when they look to prepare for the 2020/21 season.

Football.london understands the Blues were planning to head to the USA this summer, however that could now change due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Blues, and several Premier League clubs, could change their plans with it unclear yet just how long it will go on for.
