How Chelsea have spent Frank Lampard's opening days of the Ireland pre-season tour

Chelsea's pre-season campaign is in full swing as the Blues get ready for the 2019/20 campaign.

For the third season in a row there will be a different head coach at the helm when the Blues kick start their opening Premier League fixture, with Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri being replaced.

The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge is going to be electric as Frank Lampard is now the man calling the shots, but he will have to deal with Manchester United away and Liverpool in the Super Cup before their opening home match.

But before all that, Lampard has to negotiate his first pre-season.

Lampard held his first press conference as Blues head coach on Thursday and the next day the Blues flew out to Ireland to start their training camp.

The majority of the first team players were given some extra time off and joined up with the squad yesterday (Monday) and it has been an intense few days for those who have come back.

Chelsea have been going through their training at Carton House in Maynooth, taking on double sessions as Lampard gets his team back to match sharpness and working with the players.

The Blues have a busy schedule when it comes to matches. They have seven games in five different countries ahead of the Manchester United match.

Chelsea take on Bohemian FC on Wednesday night, before they then take on St Patrick's Athletic on Saturday night.

The Blues then fly off to Japan to take on Kawasaki Frontale and Barcelona, before returning to England to take on Reading at the Madjeski Stadium.

In the penultimate week of pre-season they fly out to Austria to face RB Salzburg and then finish with a trip to Borussia Monchengladbach ahead of the journey to Manchester.

With so many games, it means that Lampard will need to take the advantage of the pre-season training camp to get his ideas and style of football across to a group of player who had played in a certain way under Sarri.

However, it appears the players are certainly enjoying themselves, with spirits looking high in the camp and a good mix of youth and experience being thrown together for Lampard to work with.

football.london will be there throughout pre-season with all the coverage over the next few weeks.
