How Celtic’s wage bill compares to Europa League rivals Lazio as Serie A salaries are revealed

The salary breakdown of Celtic’s Europa League rivals Lazio has been revealed.

The Scottish champions were drawn against the Serie A giants in the group stage draw last month along with Ligue 1 club Rennes and Romanians Cluj.

Lazio were the Pot 1 team while Neil Lennon’s side were in Pot 2. The Romans represent the most formidable opponents for Celtic with players such as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Lucas Leiva on their books.

But Simone Inzaghi’s side are ranked only sixth in the table for wages spent in Serie A.

According to figures released by respected outlet Gazetta dello Sport , Juventus pay the biggest salaries with Cristiano Ronaldo unsurprisingly the best remunerated on a mind-boggling £28million a year net.

The Old Lady splash out more than £263m a year on wages while the next biggest spenders are Inter, Roma, Milan and Napoli.

Lazio are next with a wage bill just shy of £65m. Their highest earner is Serbia midfielder Milinkovic-Savic who rakes in a cool £2.24m a year – again AFTER tax.

So how does Lazio’s wage bill compare to Celtic’s? Actually there’s not a lot of difference in total squad terms although the figures for individual players given in UK media are gross while in Italy it’s always net.

Earlier this year it was revealed Celtic spent £59.3m on wages in 2018 which is around £5m less than Lazio.

Celtic’s top earners include Scott Sinclair who is believed to be on more than £30,000 a week before tax.

Elsewhere in Serie A, former Rangers defender Bruno Alves earns £716,000 per season at Parma.

Former Celtic and Hibs midfielder Liam Henderson , meanwhile, reportedly takes in around £269,000 a year or £5,100 a week.
