How Celtic hero Kieran Tierney ensured Hoops will face former Arsenal stopper in Hibs clash

New Hibs goalkeeper Matt Macey has revealed how Kieran Tierney sold him on Scottish football.

The former Celtic hero played alongside Macey at Arsenal before the giant goalkeeper made his way to Edinburgh on a free transfer earlier today.

He's likely to make his debut against Celtic on Monday night when the Easter Road side visit Celtic Park.

Jack Ross had a bit of a goalkeeping crisis before the signing with Ofir Marciano injured and Dillon Barnes recalled to QPR.

Hibs did recall Kevin Dabrowski from Dumbarton but the other option was goalkeeping coach Craig Samson before this deal was completed.

And Neil Lennon might be phoning Tierney up to question him if Macey puts in good performance after being sold on the move by the Arsenal star.

"I spoke to Kieran at length about the opportunity to come to Hibs, about Scottish football and the country in general," he told the Hibs website.

"Kieran was really positive about every aspect of it, whether it was the club or Edinburgh itself.

"As I said, I was already keen to come but it was good to hear him talk so enthusiastically about it all. He backed up the gut feeling I had. Kieran’s someone I have a lot of time for and he’s probably one of the first names on the team-sheet – if not the first – at Arsenal just now."

Macey admits he doesn't expect much support from Tierney when the game kicks off on Monday night.

The left back never hid support for Celtic when he was in Glasgow and even less so since he moved to London and Macey knows he'll be hoping for a Hoops win.

He added: "Kieran isn’t exactly subtle about the team he supports so I think the well-wishes from him would last until kick-off.

"I really enjoyed my time at Arsenal, but this feels like an opportunity that I’ve been waiting for. I want to kick-start my career.

"The last few years haven’t gone the way I would have planned, but that’s always the trade-off when you’re at a massive club with world class players. It’s an opportunity to play in games that matter and the thought of that is really exciting."
