How Celtic defeat against Lyon was reported in the French press

The French press have hailed a 'dominant' performance from Lyon against Celtic.

Moussa Dembélé gave them an early lead with a header against his former side, with former Manchester United man Memphis Depay's back-heel doubling their advantage.

Mo Elyounoussi gave Celtic a late consolation, but the Veolia Trophy match ended in a 2-1 win victory for Lyon.

France Football said Lyon had bounced back from their 2-0 defeat to Rangers on Thursday, saying: "OL (Olympique Lyonnais) reassured themselves this Saturday evening by dominating Celtic."

They praised Elyounoussi, however, pointing out that his goal involved him "mystifying Marcelo and Jason Denayer."

L'Equipe pointed out the sloppy marking that led to Dembélé's opener, saying: "Moussa Dembélé, double Scottish champion with Celtic, lonely at the far post, remembered the good memories of his old colours by victoriously taking the lead."

They said Lyon "perfectly mastered" the first half, and that Celtic's "only dangerous" moment came from captain Olivier Ntcham when he hit the post with a deflected free-kick.

Celtic's consolation from Elyounoussi was said to have been the result of Lyon having "lowered the pace". They named Memphis Depay their man of the match, saying he "set the Scottish defence on fire with his acceleration and dribbling from the first minute".

Like France Football, L'Equipe said Lyon "dominated" Celtic.

Neil Lennon's men are in action again on Tuesday, when they face PSG. They kick off their Premiership defence on August 2nd against Hamilton Accies at Celtic Park.
