'How can you stop that' - Leeds United have shown hand to rivals but hold winning cards

Leeds United only need to look south across Yorkshire to see what's happened at Sheffield United this season to know the dangers that can lie in wait in the Premier League.

That's not to suggest anyone expects the Whites to have such an alarming fall from grace as the Blades did this term, but there will no doubt be a case of Leeds having to prove themselves all over again next term with some doubters labelling them with a one-season wonder tag.

Marcelo Bielsa's men having the top flight by storm this season in finishing ninth, with not just their results but the manner of the performances winning friends and admirers.

One such admirer is former Premier League winner Chris Sutton, who admits teams may have a better understanding of what to expect from Leeds next season. The trouble for opponents is, as Sutton explains, knowing how Leeds are going to play is one thing, stopping them is another.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, when asked about whether Leeds would find it much tougher next season, Sutton said; “It’s not going to happen to Leeds, though, is it? I don’t sense a feeling.

“They have been maybe fortunate that they haven’t had too many serious injuries. I think they have used the least amount of players this season in the Premier League, 23.

“Other teams, they know how Leeds set out, they know how Leeds are going to play, but under Bielsa, it’s how you are going to stop that.”

The former striker makes a good point, with many sides trying to stifle the Leeds approach this season but Bielsa's side looking stronger with each passing month as they adapted themselves to the Premier League.

Hope, rather than expectation, is Leeds will kick on next season and there certainly won't be a second season syndrome which some will anticipate.
